| My
name is
John Vanderlaan, and I am
a 12-year old from Spring Lake,
Michigan. I shot this 10 point
buck at 4:40pm on November 17, 2006, on
my very first rifle hunt with my father
in Alcona County. After 3 days of
seeing only a few doe, I noticed some
movement coming out of a thick set of
pine trees. I could only see his legs
moving while he walked behind the trees,
until he finally showed his horns
sticking out from the last pine. He
stepped out to the open and looked up at
me and stared. I waited until he took a
few steps more, and then I made a
40-yard heart shot with my Ruger .270
WSM. The horns measure 15 ½ inch inside
spread, with 7 inch tines, and field
dressed at 170 lbs.

sit with me (his dad, Dennis Prevo) or
his grandfather (Bill Prevo). Well he
decided to sit with grandpa and what a
good decision that turned out to be! At
7:30 am opening morning (November 15th),
the big buck walked right out in front
of him and he didn't miss his chance to
score the buck. |
